I have this same problem, my HTC is brand spanking new, one day old.
I straight away set it up for PUSH email from my email EXCHANGE server. So I've done a Hard Reset and will use the phone for a while without the Data Sync with Push Email and see how I go.
Thanks for the Hard Reset Tip tho, I was trying to do it by pushing the Enter key on the QWERTY, DOH. As if that round button should even be called an 'ENTER' button.

Interesting on the roaming issue. In 'theory' the ActiveSync push should not work whilst roaming by default. (If not selcted on the schedule options)

However POP mail, Windows Live etc. despite having the option to not do anything whilst roaming seem to totally ignore this.

I'll drop a line to HTC and see what their support has to say.

How did you go with this, still having problems ?
I had an app installed called gyrator, when I uninstalled it this stopped hapening, I reinstalled, started happening again, any way , I went nuts last night and down loaded a whole lotta stuff for the phone and now its happening again, dammit.
there are several posts re this around the place.
Using diamond tweak you can make apps that use gprs disconnect after 30 seconds( or wotever). the phone seems a bit more stable after doing this .
Good luck
